About Dr. Prachee
Dr Prachee Shah is young and dynamic Pediatrician and Neonatologist with special interest in field of nutrition practicing in Sabarmati,Ahmedabad since 2010.
She started her medical career by pursuing M.B.B.S from the reputed Shri M.P Shah Medical Colleage(G.G.Hospital,Jamnagar). After completing her M.B.B.S with flying colours, she pursued her Master Degree in Pediatrics from Shri P.D.U Medical Colleage at K.T Children Hospital, Rajkot which is the tertiary centre for the entire Saurashtra region. Being the pioneer resident at K.T Children Hospital, she had accumulated a vast experience in dealing with all pediatric and neonatal emergencies.
She has been in private practice since Sep 2010. She is Consultant Pediatrician and Neonatologist at her own set up at Vraj Hospital, Sabarmati.She is also Head of Pediatrics department at Panchshil Multispeciality Hospital, Sabarmati.
Quality care, personalized approach, ethical and evidence based treatment are the essence of her practice. During all these years she has emphasised on optimum nutrition of her patients.She has specially focused on promoting and supporting breastfeeding and on timely starting of solids.She has been promoter of exclusive breastfeeding till 6 months of age and introduction of home made age appropriate food beyond 6 months along with continuation of breastfeeding.She strongly advocates extended breastfeeding beyond 2 years of age and believes in natural weaning.She makes it a point to educate relatives regarding advantages of breastfeeding and timely introduction of solids. She tries to clear myths prevalent regarding breastfeeding with evidence based knowledge.
After embracing motherhood in 2014,she felt lacunae prevalent in management of lactation related issues. Her breastfeeding journey was very smooth since she was armed with her knowledge of early feeding practices. She then realized this may not be the scenario with many new mothers. She realized that many minor issues that every mother faces during her lactation journey were simple enough for her, but may not have been the same for someone who is not from her kind of medical background.
This motivated her to do something exclusively in the field of lactation. To begin with she pursued prestigious course from University of California,San Diego and became UCSD certified first Certified Lactation Educator and Counselor (CLEC) in Gujarat.
Her quest to gain more expertise in field of lactation and to enhance her knowledge and sharpen her skills she underwent vigorous training to clear International Board Of Lactation Consultant Examiners exam and cleared the exam with very good merit and attained the ultimate qualification in field of lactation. She became the first and only International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in entire Gujarat, in June 2018.
She is pioneer in establishing first and exclusive lactation clinic in Gujarat : Neev - सही शुरुआत. She is very passionate about her work and keeps updating herself with latest developments in field of lactation. She is a member of Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI) and Human Milk Bank Association, India. Till date she has guided innumerable mothers to achieve their breastfeeding goals.
She has been part of many training sessions as a Trainer to share her knowledge with fellow health care professionals. Her vision is to reestablish exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and extended breastfeeding beyond 2 years as norms.
